Fluoride aids in the prevention of decay as well as sensitivity by strengthening the enamel of the teeth and aiding in the re-mineralization process. Fluoride foam or gel is placed into small, flexible foam trays and placed over the teeth for 30 seconds to 4 minutes. Afterward, the client is directed to spit as much out as possible. It can also be done as a rinse like mouthwash or as a nail paint often known as varnish.
